Blood Donation

Overcoming the separateness of a self-centered life, one should serve all beings with gifts, honor and love, recognizing that such service is really being rendered to Me who reside in all beings as their innermost soul.

Srimad Bhagavata Purana

Blood donation is a highly meritorious act, by which those who have an abundance of health share with those who are ill or injured. By donating blood anonymously, we affirm the divine in all beings and acknowledge that all life has value.

Bhishma said, "Whatever one wishes with respect to oneself, one should certainly cherish with respect to another. With the surplus wealth one may happen to own one should relieve the wants of the indigent. It is for this reason that the Creator ordained the practice of increasing one's wealth” (Mahabharata, Santi Parva, Section CCLIX).

When it comes to blood donation, we are invited to view our healthy bodies as a form of wealth, a wealth given to us in order to relieve the suffering of those in need.
